陳俊成 began by explaining that the partner originally scheduled to speak could not attend, so he was giving the presentation in their place. The talk moved through colored photovoltaic films, building energy performance and several collaborative projects before arriving at a practical tool: a box-shaped device that measures light toward the roof and all four walls at once. The team calls it the “mobile cube.”

Colored building-integrated photovoltaics are easy to judge first by appearance. Color, transparency and pattern move solar modules beyond black rectangles and into windows, walls and shading elements. They also change the light that actually reaches the cell. A color swatch selects more than an appearance; it also selects which wavelengths can pass through to generate electricity.

陳俊成 shared observations from two generations of colored film exposed outdoors. The first showed a visible change after roughly six months. After about nine to ten months, the later generation had not shown the same change at the time of the talk. The two periods do not constitute a lifetime comparison under identical conditions. They reveal another side of product development: after color is completed in a presentation, it still has to pass through sunlight, heat and humidity.

A building is not a flat test plate. The roof and the east-, west-, south- and north-facing walls receive different amounts of light. Neighboring buildings, trees and the building's own projections cast moving shadows over the course of a day. Estimating an entire building from a weather station or horizontal irradiance most readily misses what may be BIPV's largest available area: the façade.

The mobile cube points one sensor upward and four outward. Placed at a proposed site, it records the conditions in each direction and sends the data to the cloud for analysis. It does not choose a color for the building. Before modules are selected, it tells the team which wall receives light and which remains shaded for long periods. If actual output is later compared with this baseline after completion, the original estimate can continue to be corrected.

陳俊成 said a renovation of an older hotel in Hsinchu was expected to move forward in late 2026 or early 2027. If the project proceeds on schedule, the cube's five-surface dataset could be compared with post-completion output. Only then could the team answer how much light a wall originally received and how much remained after it became BIPV.
